About

The town begins the history with 1724; originally it had the name Darkehmen. The rights of city were given it by Prussian king Fridrikh Wilhelm I in 1725, personally visited here at that time.
 
Here on the river Angrappa there was a hydroelectric power station in 1880 owing to which in town there was an electric street illumination first in East Prussia. In 2000 the hydroelectric power station was again restored, and on September, 9th, 2006 in the town centre the monument to the first lantern is established.
 
After the Second World War the town has been mostly destroyed but the town center still keeps historical appearance. 1730 families were resettled in the area in 1947. First settlers moved from Novgorod and Pskov regions. Then the area was renamed into Ozersky. This name harmoniously reflects all the nature beauty of our area, which reaches among the hills, surrounded by magnificent lakes, woods and fields.
 
The number of inhabitants in Ozersk area is 16800 people, only third part of them lives in town, therefore for a long time the area has an agricultural direction. The rivers, lakes and sets of hills create attractive shape for tourists. For them in municipality it is developed canoe and bike route of the day off, and in February, 2007 ski descent with use of an artificial snow near the settlement Novo-Guryevskoe will be opened.
